Work in Progress: Lara's corduroy skirt

I'm super excited about a skirt I'm working on at the moment.  Lara wanted a corduroy skirt made from this super soft, cozy, stretch corduroy I bought from Fabric.com last year (I also made a pencil skirt for Diane from it).  I didn't have enough left to do the whole skirt, so I cut the yoke from a purple corduroy.

Here's the part that has me giddy: hidden pockets!!

I'm excited to see how they look on Lara and I put a snap in one to make it lay flat (but this may not be necessary once it's on a body).

This is one of those skirts that I've made for someone else that I really covet for myself.  If only I had more of that purple/pink corduroy left.  If anyone has it in their stash and is willing to part with it, contact me please!!

  1. Love the fabric and I think the addition of the solid purple is perfect.

    1. Thanks, Rhonda! I felt very lucky that I had something in my stash that matched one of the stripes. It's moments like these that make me glad I'm a fabric hoarder. That should be the next big reality show - someone does an intervention on a sewist because she has mountains of fabric in her sewing room and buttons and zippers hitting her on the head as they fall off shelves (not that that has ever happened to me, oh no).

  2. Love those pockets. I have a Vogue pattern that has pockets like that and I'm always tempted to make it up. Maybe this summer!

    1. I think I saw that pattern on Scruffy Badger's blog after I made this one up - I'm happy to know I think like Vogue! In a couple of years you'll want small pockets for carrying ice cream man money when you take your sweet pea to the park!

  3. Love this skirt! So beautiful! Do you sell the pattern or would you know where I can find/buy it?
    Many thanks

    1. Thank you! I drafted this pattern from my client's measurements (a good beginner drafting book is Cal Patch's Design-it-Yourself Clothes) so I only have a pattern for her. Vogue 1247 is similar to this. If you have a skirt pattern with a yoke it is pretty easy to add the pockets. Hmmm, maybe I should do a tutorial on THAT!

    2. Thank you! Tutorial would be fantastic but I know it can be time consuming.
      All the best,
      Karin
